I don’t know if I’ve ever shared this fact here, but before I settled on Penelope as my name, I was strongly considering Shelley. But I really wanted a name that could be shortened, and lengthening Shelley to Michelle for myself would have given me an alliterative name, which I didn’t want. Which is funny because if I had been assigned female at birth my name would have been Mary.

Plus, then I’d have to live with the fact that I named myself after a Dance Hall Crashers song, which, canonically, Shelley Talora did.
